INTRODUCTION TO THE RULES
Follow the link below for an introduction to the rules of basketball based on the FIBA rules.
Next School begins in JULY 2019.
All applicants must be 14 years of age as of 1st September 2019 to be eligible.
Applications have been closed for the July school, but keep an eye out for our SEPTEMBER school!
BEGINNER SCHOOL INFORMATION
This process begins with a group interview to identify if you are suited to the demanding environment of refereeing
Date – Sunday 22nd September 2019
Time: 3:00pm to 6:00pm
Venue – HBA Office (48 Whitehorse Road, Deepdene)
The course has a minimum of 4 Classroom sessions prior to going on court with a qualified referee.
Dates to be announced closer to the time;
Sessions will be 4:00pm to 6:00pm Sunday.
Sessions are held at HBA Office
Times and Dates Subject to Change
Beginners are paired with an experienced mentor and train at various venues used by HBA for junior & senior domestic competitions.
Saturday 10:30am to 7:30pm
Sunday 2:30 pm to 5:30pm
Tuesday 6:30pm to 10:30pm
Wednesday 6:30pm to 10:30pm
Thursday 6:30pm to 10:30pm
Course Costs – $150.00 per applicant: Payable once accepted into the Referee Beginners Course after Group Interview.

Referee Training from Qualified Referees

Green Shirt (Training – returned once you receive your Referee Shirt)
Black & White Referee top once passed the course
Whistle with Break away Lanyard
Six (6) on-court session as a minimum training before being graded as Level C
Paid to referee games of basketball (once qualified)
Mentor & Class Room materials cost
