Andrew Nightingale Appointed as BigV Womens Head Coach

Added 2 January 2007

After spending a highly productive season with the Mens squad as Assistant Coach, Andrew Nightingale has taken on the challenge as Head Coach of Magic's Division 1 Women's team.

Before joining the Magic Men's coaching staff, Andrew was involved in the Sutherland Sharks basketball program in Sydney. He was involved there for the past 25 years, spending the last 12 of that in Assistant and Head Coaching positions with the U/18, U/22 and Open Men Sharks teams in the Waratah State League which is equivalent to the Big V or SEABL Leagues in Melbourne. Andrew joined the Men's team three weeks into the 2006 season. He quickly established himself as a specialist skills trainer and worked alongside Glenn Rees and Josh Hommellhoff.

For the 2007 season, Andrew's Assistant Coach will be Stu Pirie, who returns to the Magic after playing stints with Bulleen and Monash Uni in the Big V. Chris Allen rounds out the line up as Team Manager.

This appointment was made following the resignation of former coach Simon Hickey. The fresh coaching panel will see the Womens team through its transition to Division 1.

In news on the Mens team front, Coach Glenn Rees returns for a third season with men's squad, his Assistant Coach will once again be Josh Hommelholf with the ever reliable Ken Rees handling he team managers role.
