2006 Referees Break Up and Awards Presentation
Added 1 February 2007
On 16th December 2006, all the hard working referees of the Hawthorn Basketball Association congregated at the Alexandra Gardens in Kew for the annual Referees Break Up. Each and every year, there are funny stories told from the day. A couple highlights of the day included "Mr Technical Foul" Tom Dale wearing a footy on the head courtesy of "Flex" Papakostas during his acceptance speech of his Furball Award and referees Krantz, Burrell and Dale finishing the day lying spread-eagled on the ground after 1 or 2 drinks with the latter two heading home with a certain section of the male human anatomy drawn on their faces. Also the ignorance in regards to laxatives from Chris Papa deserves a mention here. The word is, the method of intake of the laxitive purchased was inappropriate for the planned prank, so unfortunately or fortunately, that put an end to that. But all in all, sounds like it was a fun day. There was also a serious side to the day where the pick of the Hawthorn referees for the 2006 calendar year were presented with various awards. Congratulations to all award winners but in particularly to Campbell Wilson who took out the coveted Rookie of the Year award and to Nick "The Crowebar" Crowe who took out the big one, the Referee of the Year. Here is a round up of all the award winners.
