Nando's Junior Grand Final Day

The biggest day of the domestic Junior Competition season for Summer 2006/07 took place on 24th March 2007, with the last 2 teams standing from each division taking part in the grand final. However, there was something different about this season's grand final day where a special appearance from Charlie the Nando's Chicken keeping the folk entertained on the sidelines down at the Boorondara Sports Complex. Nando's has jumped on board the Hawthorn Basketball Association, sponsoring the the Grand Final day and potentially sponsoring future Hawthorn Basketball representative teams, events and domestic competitions. We look forward to a bright and successful partnership between Nando's and Hawthorn Basketball in the future.



Back to court matters, there was plenty of action on the floor and in the air and at the end of the day there was a wide range of results. There were close encounters, overtimes and even double overtimes on occasions as well as the odd one sided affairs. This was most evident in Under 19 Division 1 where Unfinished Biz demolished a depleted S.C. Serpents to the tune of 60 points.



During the matches, there was a lot of sweat and even a bit of blood for the players efforts and following the matches, there was dispair and joy.



Back at the HOP after a long day, the hard working referees and supervisors were treated to a feast by our friends at Nando's Harry and Jimmy. It was not a place for the faint hearted as manners were thrown out the window as the referees fed on 3 massive boxes of chicken, chips and in Ben Hickman's case, salad. However, all didn't go to plan as Chris "LB" Papakostas wasn't seeing too clearly following a bite of chicken with the famous Nando's "mild" Peri Peri sauce.
