Dragons go back to the 'burbs

The Crazy John’s South Dragons are taking their 2007/08 NBL campaign on the road this week, heading back to the ‘burbs to spread the word about the season ahead.
All fans are invited to join the team at Boroondara Sports Complex tomorrow to see the players put through their paces at an open training session. The on-court hit-out will be followed by a skills clinic for all junior hoops fans, plus autographs and photographs with all the stars of the game.
Led by player-coach Shane Heal, the team will hit the court at 3:00pm to show fans just what it takes to make it in the national league.
Joining Heal on the coaches’ bench will be assistant coach Guy Molloy and newly appointed basketball development coach Michele Timms, on track to take the Crazy John’s South Dragons all the way in season 2007/08.
Following the widespread success of the community-style program in season one, the Crazy John’s South Dragons are again going ‘Back to the ‘Burbs’ in 2007 to share their campaign with fans from all over the state.
“Back to the ‘Burbs is about connecting with the thousands of kids who regularly play the game around Victoria,” Timms said.
“It is a wonderful opportunity for the stars of tomorrow to meet the stars of today.
“As a club we pride ourselves on accessibility and Back to the ‘Burbs is a fantastic example of this.
"The main focus of the visit is for young players to have the opportunity to meet and interact with their heroes face-to-face.”
But it’s not just aspiring players who have the chance to gain an inside edge – coaches too have their chance to get the heads-up on the current state of play.
"Local coaches have a special opportunity to talk one-on-one with the Dragons’ coaching staff to work on their games as well,” Timms said.
The Crazy John’s South Dragons’ 2007 Back to the ‘Burbs campaign will see the team venture to Broadmeadows, Waverley, Kilsyth, Altona, Mill Park, Sandringham, Werribee, Eltham, Coburg, Knox, Keilor and Bulleen by year’s end – catch the team in action at a stadium near you!
