Magic Warming Up for Finals
Added 23 July 2007 The weekend saw the Hawthorn Magic mens team travel to Keilor for what was a crunch game for their playoff aspirations. Following last weeks massive 95-77 win in Altona against playoff rivals the Gators, it was important for the Magic to further strengthen their hold on 3rd spot and avoid a first round playoff matchup against the highly fancied Mildura Heat. Jay Allen led the way with 29 points (including 12 out of 12 from the free throw line) and was well supported by big men Boyd Smart and Steve Carter who scored 16 and 18 points respectively. Steve Carter and Brenton Leneghan both with 11 rebounds. The 88-85 win is the Magic's 3rd in a row and are hitting form at the right time of the season. The Magic can put an end to Sherbrooke's playoff dreams with a win in Monbulk next Saturday night. Good news too for the Magic women who have notched up back to back wins following a 7 game losing streak. For the Magic women, Lauren Killmister with 15 points and Hannah Lowe with 14 points led the line. Bernadette Rees had 10 rebounds in their 62-61 victory at Melbourne University. Make sure you are at the BSC on Sunday 29th July from 12pm for the final home double header of the season. The Magic women take on Werribee and the men take on Southern Peninsula in what could be a preview of the semi finals. |
