Grand Final Showdown
Added 13 August 2007 Following the competition of the back end of the semi finals series, the Hawthorn Magic mens team have returned to the BigV Division One Mens grand final for the third successive season. The Magic took a 1-0 series lead down to the Hillview Stadium in Rosebud where they attempted to win one out of the potential two games against the Southern Peninsula Sharks. Unfortunately for the Magic, the Sharks took advantage of a flat Magic team in game 2, winning 114-86 on Saturday night to level the series at 1. However, the Magic bounced back to win the decisive game 3 104-85 the next day to progress to the grand final series. The Magic will take on the Mildura Heat who eliminated the Altona Gators after a scare in game 2 where Altona levelled the series winning 113-92, but the Heat were too strong in game 3, winning their series with a 95-79 win. The Mildura Heat have been the overwhelming title favourites throughout the season following their move from the SEABL to the BigV competition. They have been the standout team in the competition this season with a 18-2 win loss record. However, the Magic are also in top form with their customary late season charge going into the finals. The Magic have won 7 out of their last 8 matches, dropping only the game 2 semi final match against Southern Peninsula. The boys will need all the support they can get, so head down to the Boroondara Sports Complex this Saturday night or hang around after your junior domestic fixtures and make some noise for our team! Hopefully it will be third time lucky for the Magic!
