Andrew Nightingale turned a 7 game losing streak for Hawthorn into 4 straight wins for the month of July, with a fantastic turnaround that has won him Coach of the Month honours for July.
Hawthorn began the month with a loss to Blackburn, but bounced back with a win over 2nd placed Warrandyte, 3rd placed Werribee and 4th placed Diamond Valley as well as Melbourne University to end the season in seventh place on the ladder.
“I was very proud of how the team performed over the last month as we had lost our previous seven games. They managed to stay positive and focussed on the task at hand. We made some small changes to our training focus halfway through our losing streak and it was pleasing to see those changes being executed in games and contributing to our late season wins...” Nightingale said of his teams July performance.
Nightingale said that this award is a team award for the girls.
“I believe this award should be called Team of the Month as it really is the team that performs best throughout that month that the Coach wins the award and I consider myself to be a part of that team and not exterior to it.”
“...It is a credit to the girls that they continued to train hard and kept working on improving their skills and teamwork right to the end of the season. Our focus really was on week to week results and hopefully set ourselves up for next season, and if things fell our way for finals this year then so be it,” he said.
