Mens Grand Final Night Winter 2007

Last night saw the best from each of the 6 grades in the mens competition play off in the grand final for Season 2007. At times, it was very tense and physical due to the fierce competitive nature of the teams involved but it was played in the best spirit.
First up on court, in the Youth League, the Topcats got out to a strong start but were unable to maintain the edge with no substitutes and injury hampering them. The second half saw the Ravens take control of the match and take the Youth League title. The unfortunate Topcats falling short at the last hurdle for the third consecutive season.
Over on court two, in the Veterans League, Spon were able to reverse the fortunes of the regular season where they went down to the Magic Men in both their encounters. Spon finishing the stronger after a close first half.
Next up on court one was the A Grade grand final. Temerity and Pro City squared off in what was a rematch of last season's grand final. Temerity flew out of the blocks to take control of the game. Pro City's chances weren't helped by injury which reduced them to 4 players for a majority of the match. It was a procession of dunks from Temerity's Nick Dimitroff and Anthony Richardson as they ran away with the game. 29 points from Pro City's Jay Allen wasn't nearly enough for the runners up.
In C Grade, the C-Sharps took on minor premiers the Wombats. As was the case in the qualifying final, C-Sharps were too strong for the Wombats.
A-Reserve saw the Bali Nine take on the Disco Ninjas. It was a closely fought match as many in the stadium were unsure how this match would play out. For most of the game, the Bali Nine control proceedings and took at the title.
OTG and the Carlton Cannons played in the B Grade grand final. It was a seesawing match which saw the momentum swing back and forth. Carlton Cannons looked to have control of the match, dominating inside the paint while OTG relied on big time three point bombs to keep them in the match. In the end, OTG's defence clamped down on the Cannons and the win gave their noisy contingent in the crowd something to cheer and drum about!
