Womens Grand Final Night Winter 2007
Added 19 September 2007 Womens grand final night took place last night at Xavier College. The remaining two teams left in each of the 4 competitions played off for premiership glory. First up on court were the pick of the C Grade teams with the Shooters taking on the Nomads. Only a fortnight earlier, the Nomads had dealt the Shooters a crushing 20-9 defeat in the qualifying final. However, this time round, the Shooters wanted the game more and turned the tables on the Nomads taking the C Grade title 23-9. The cream of the crop in the Womens competition were up next in the A Grade Grand Final. The top of the table Bullets took on the Pink Ladies. The Pink Ladies got through to the grand final the hard way. After winning the B grade competition last season, they were promoted to A where they scraped into the finals in 4th place. They overcame the Dragons in the elimination final and then the Dolphins to earn the right to play in the grand final. The Pink Ladies got out to a 10-0 start and an upset was on the cards with the Bullets on the back foot. The Bullets never got into the game as the Pink Ladies ran away with the title 37-19. The B grade grand final was much anticipated after the preliminary final produced a rematch of the qualifying final where the Punchettes beat Women in Red by a solitary point. In what was a great exhibition of basketball, Women in Red controlled most of the game. Punchettes relied on three point shooting to keep them close but Women in Red were too strong in the end winning 24-19. Finally up on court were the top two from D Grade. Eagles and Magnum Force played what was a physical encounter between the top two teams in the division. After a slow start to the match from both teams, the Eagles hit their scraps and won the D Grade title 21-16.
