Off The Mark in Summer 2007/08
Added 21 September 2007 The summer season of mens domestic basketball kicked off last night at MLC and BSC. All the fixtures and ladders are online and ready to go! There has been quite a shuffle of the teams for this season with promotions and relegation between the leagues to create a much more even and competitive competition. Headlining the lineup change has been the promotion of last season's A reserve grand finalists Bali Nine and Disco Ninjas moving up to A Grade with Blue Devils and Varpas heading in the opposite direction. Elsewhere, Chiefs, OTG and Carlton Cannons have moved up from B Grade to A Reserve, C Grade grand finalists C-Sharps and Wombats have gone up a grade to B and Youth League premiers Ravens have moved into C Grade. However, the biggest news from round one of mens action was the arrival of the Nando's Magic. The team player/coached by Charlie "5 Fingas" Fyffe which featured our friends Jimmy and Willie from Nando's Hawthorn took to the court for the first time. The Nando's Magic got off to a flying start with a big 3 point bomb from Jimmy Shepard and looked a chance at a massive upset. Unfortunately, the Nando's boys were unable to keep the momentum going as they went down to the SC Rattlers 69-15. None the less it was a promising start. Following the match, Willie said he "had a lot of trouble with a lack of fitness" as the game turned into a fast break affair with the Rattlers piling on the points. "It was a lot of fun as we got off to a great start but we were unable to keep it up, the other team were toying with us towards the end of the match" as Jimmy was talking of a round the back pass from the Rattler's Kevin Ng. All in all, the Nando's boys enjoyed the game and no doubt will improve with more games under their belt. For your next family feed, head down to Nando's Hawthorn on Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn. Ask for Jimmy, Harry, Willie, Andre and the rest of the crew, say you're with the Hawthorn Basketball Association and they'll give you a Magic deal. Enjoy the season and remember to keep heading to www.hawthornbasketball.com.au, the official site of the Hawthorn Basketball Association for all the news, results, ladders, photos and for everything Hawthorn Basketball throughout the season!
