2008 Hawthorn Magic Senior Squads
Added 6 March 2008 The offseason has seen tryouts for both mens and womens Hawthorn Magic senior squads take place for the right to pull on the Magic jersey in Season 2008. The pinnacle of the Magic representative program is its mens and womens BigV Division One teams. Following the success of the mens team in Season 2007, where they took out the Division One title after a thrilling game 3 grand final victory on the road in Mildura, the mens team has lost its cornerstone big men Steve Carter and Boyd Smart in the offseason. Glenn Watts has also departed to try his hand at Aussie Rules. To help fill these massive holes in the roster, coach Glenn Rees has looked to a familiar face in former Magic player Jeremy Caust, Nunawading recruit Chris Bellesini and Magic Under 20 players Kieran Kaufman and Rory Ellis. This Magic outfit start their title defence against the team they defeated in the grand final last season, the Mildura Heat at home on opening night of the BigV Division One Mens season. Last season was very much an experimental year for the Magic women as they embarked on their first season in Division One under new coach Andrew Nightingale. Having learnt the ropes in Division One last season, Nightingale has made wholesale changes to the roster injecting no fewer than 5 players from last season's Under 20 squad. Tash Ross-Harris, Jess McKenzie, Holly Bradshaw, Kate McCrimmon and Charlotte Sumskas have been added to senior squad to give the team a very youthful look. Malin Lindblad has also been recruited from the Melbas club in Sweeden to give the team an international flavour as they look to make the playoffs in their 2nd season in Division One. The season kicks off for both mens and womens on Saturday March 29th in a double header against the Mildura Heat at the home of the Magic, Boorondara Sports Complex. Big V Men
