Em's Blog: What A Weekend Off Can Do
Added 16 June 2008 Emily Matheson Hi Magic fans. What a weekend off can do!!! (And a lot of motivation to beat those rough and ready Werribee She-devils) Very exciting news! We pumped Werribee yesterday! :) It began as we thought it would, tough and rough. Grieve and Johnston were the main offenders from Werribee. They were relentless in their effort to bump and knock us down. It was actually quite appalling. But anyway, I guess I shouldn't complain, because their style of play obviously didn't work yesterday! The first quarter began with a string of turnovers and missed buckets with scoring eventually getting underway a few minutes into the first term. The starters did a great job at holding off the initial Werribee offensive attack, and with the combination of more great Magic players coming onto the court, we ended up with 10 by the end of the first quarter, to Werribee's 14. It was our second quarter which blew them away! What a blinder :) I don't know how we did it, but we somehow pulled out one of the best quarters of team basketball this group of 12 has ever played! We scored 31 points to Werribee's 5! We smashed their zone! I must mention a few highlights of this quarter: Bernie Ree's defensive and offensive effort! Just magnificent! Bernie threw herself at the ball, grabbed tough rebounds, boxed out strongly, got a few buckets! Great effort! Loz and Hannah just didn't seem to miss. Smash was smash as always! What a game! A shocking-unsportsmanlike hit, (don't know who the offender from Werribee was) poor little Kate McKrimmon had only been on the court for about 13 seconds, and was absolutely clothes lined. Never mind, she was ready to go back on in the second half! Third quarter was the 'steadier'. We knew Werribee were going to throw everything at us, they actually started in a man to man to try and mix things up. But we kept our heads level and they quickly fell back to a lazy zone defence. We still put on another 5 points over them! Fourth quarter, both teams scored 12 points. I guess the game just fizzled out a little! But what an absolute turn-a-round from the 1st quarter, being 4 down and winning by 25 points! YAY :) Thanks to all those wonderful under 10 girls who came and cheered us on and played at half time (future stars!), it was so good to have your little voices screaming in support! Next week we play Sunbury, Saturday night at 8 pm. Hope you can join us on the road! Cheers, Ems #9
