Hawthorn Magic mens team co-captain Jay Allen has been selected into the BigV Division One Mens All Star Five. Selection into the All Star Five is based on votes from the league coaches for the best players in their respective positions. Allen's selection is on the back of season averages of 22.8 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game and 4.2 assists per game. He led his team in points, assists, steals and blocked shots during the 2008 season. His highest score of the season came in the elimination final against the Southern Peninsula Sharks where he exploded for 46 points. Unfortunately it was in a losing effort as the Magic were eliminated.

Joining Allen in the backcourt is Sherbrooke's Josh Smith. The forwards in the all star five are co-league MVP's in Jared Swanston of Southern Peninsula and Josh Bjelan of Sherbrooke. Sebastian Loader of Geelong rounded out the all star five with his selection at centre.

Capping off the night for Allen was the Golden Hands Award he received for having the best assists/steals/turnover ratio in the division.
