2009 Hawthorn Magic Senior Program Information

Since 2002, Hawthorn Magic has competed at senior level in the State based Big V Competition. Magic currently fields a division 1 men and division 1 women’s team. The Big V competition runs from March to July with games being played on Saturdays (usually in the evenings) and/or Sundays (in the middle of the day). Teams play in a home and away rotation and may have 4 or 5 double headers (games on Saturday and Sunday) in season.

As part of the Big V competition, there is a “Youth League” designed primarily for players under the age of 23. Eligibility rules allow a maximum of 2 players over the age of 23 to participate in the Youth League team. In 2008 there were 13 Youth League teams playing in one women’s grade and 24 Youth League men’s teams playing in two divisions. To date, Hawthorn Magic has not entered any teams into the Youth League competition.

In season 2009, Hawthorn Magic will enter a team into the Big V Youth League men and Youth League women’s competition, in addition to its Division 1 teams.

We would like to invite you and your parents to a Big V information evening that will be held on Thursday October 9 at Boroondara Sporting Complex in Balwyn North from 7pm. It is important that any players, and their parents, interested in joining the Big V squad attend this session. Players from the 2008 Big V teams will be in attendance, so you can have one on one discussion with them as to what Senior Representative basketball is all about.
