Hawthorn Magic BigV Preseason 2009

Preseason training for season 2009 is well and truly underway for the senior Hawthorn Magic squads. However, unlike past seasons, there is an extra element thrown into the mix for the upcoming season. In addition to our two senior teams competing in Division One of the BigV competition, Hawthorn have added an extra two teams which will compete in the Youth League for both men and women.

These Youth League teams serve as development teams for the up and coming young talent at Hawthorn. The Youth League division runs alongside the Division One competition throughout the season and is a proving ground for the younger players as they try to earn a place in the senior squad. This development squad option has not been available at Hawthorn in the past but now the Magic program can provide a pathway for juniors to transition into the senior program.

Players not only have to make the 2009 squad, but have to fight for their place in the senior team each week with the remaining players participating in the Youth League development team for that week. Competition for places is heating up as the coaches, Glenn Rees and Cameron Taylor (men) and Mike Funke and Nathan Arousi (women) have more players at their disposal to pick from each week for the senior squad.
