Magic Preseason Goes Into Overdrive
Added 26 January 2009 Following the Christmas/New Year period, both the Hawthorn Magic mens squad and the womens squad have been in an intensive multi-day preseason camp to work off those extra kilos packed on over the festive period. With their squad already named, womens squad coaches Mike Funke and Nathan Arousi have been putting the women through their paces to see who will make the cut for the senior team. In addition to the coverted restricted player places who will make up the core of the senior team, players will also be fighting for the remaining floating roster places which make up the remainder of the senior team and also fighting to earn court time come the start of the season. Over in the mens camp, with squad coaches Glenn Rees and Cameron Taylor yet to name their squad for the 2009 season, training has been intense as players try to make the cut. Stay tuned in the coming weeks as the mens squad for 2009 will be announced right here on the Hawthorn Basketball Association's official website. Also stay tuned to the website for dates where both mens and womens Youth League and Division One teams will have their first hit outs for season 2009 with preseason matches scheduled for February. Following that, while the rest of us take a well deserved break over the Labour Day long weekend, the Magic players will be fine tuning their games at the annual BigV Tournament at MSAC. Hopefully all this work the Magic squads are putting in early in the season will result in a bit of silverware coming to BSC come August!
