2009/10 Mens Grand Final Night
Added 27 March 2010Thursday night saw the cream of the crop from each of the 6 divisions concregate at the Boroondara Sports Complex for grand final night. Here's a summary of what took place. Kicking us off for the night was an absolute beauty! In the B grade grand final on court 1, the Carlton Cannons led by A McKay's 16 points (including 4 from beyond the arc) fell victim to a buzzer beating winner by Might and Power who were paced by Cihan Demeral (16) and Ben Walker (15). But it was James Osenaris who stole the show and the title at the game's conclusion. Might and Power 43 - 41 Carlton Cannons was the final score. See how that happened in the MEDIA section accessible via the links on the left pane! Meanwhile on court two in A Reserve grand final, Ignition, who started the finals in 3rd place as rank outsiders, overcame two semi finals (one replayed match) and a preliminary final just to make it to the big dance where they faced minor premiers Bali Nine. Led by Paul Greco's 10 points, Ignition came back from a half time deficit to topple the Bali Nine 36-31. The Bali Nine were led by Phil Downing who had 13 points. The A grade grand final saw the ever present grand finalists Temerity pitted against the new kids on the block, Young Money. Young Money matched Temerity throughout the match and nothing could separate the teams at full time giving us another 5 minutes to settle this score. It was the seasoned finalists Temerity who put the hammer down in OT to seize control winning the match 61-57. Jeremy Caust was instrumental with 29 points including 11 in overtime for Temerity while Chris Shallue had 28 points for Young Money who just came up short. In the B Reserve grand final, minor premiers Angry Husbands took on the St Kevins Old Boys who sailed past the Ravens in the semis before ensuring a straight sets exit for the Wombats in the preliminary final. However, they met their match in the grand final as the Angry Husbands controlled the game from start to finish to run out 46-38 winners. In the last two games of the night, Youth League minor premiers took care of the Ninjas 39-26 while the same dose was dished out by C grade minor premiers Hoods against Greasefire 36-26. Following each match, the referees award votes to who they deem to be the Most Valuable Player (MVP). At the end of the season, these votes are compiled and the winners of this award and the Top Goal Scorer for each division are presented with their trophies at the grand final presentations.
