2011 Referee Awards Wash Up
Added 30 January 2012
2011 was capped off in style with the annual Referee’s Break up, where Hawthorn’s elite wined, dined and misbehaved as only our fabulous referees can. Towards the end of each and every year, the Hawthorn Basketball Association Referees Committee meet and vote on a number of award categories which recognise the efforts of our crew of referees throughout the year. Here is a wrap up of the referee awards class of 2011 including the prestigious Rookie of the Year and Referee of the Year awards. The highly prestigious Referee of the Year award went to the one and only Alex Scott. Next up was the Rookie of the Year award, which was presented to a very handsome Joe Whitehead. The Most Improved award winner was Luke ‘Ox’ Gazzola, the Most Consistent award was claimed by Will Burke, the Most Determined award went to the ever popular Ben Richardson with blue ribbon Supervisor of the Year award going to the Karate Kid himself, Liam ‘Chop Chop’ O’Halloran. Sam Deed collected the highly prized Furball award The Rising Star awards for the best new talent went to Ollie Scott, Maddy Seamer and Hudson Gerwing with the hotly contested Siblings award going to a couple of HBA darlings in Cathryn and Amanda Lowe. The following individuals were also presented with Refereeing Excellence awards for their outstanding effort through out the year: Emily Kneale, Will Ross-Farrell, Claudia Armato, Nabia Yakuba, Robbie Shawyer and lone wolf Adam Kneale. Long time (and long suffering) HBA Treasurer Jan Clinton was recognised with the Outstanding Contribution award. Well done to our award winners! A big thankyou must also go out to all referees for their efforts throughout the year. Although we may not always agree with their decisions, at the end of the day, they are doing their best in what is a difficult job and without them, we wouldn't be able to play the game we love.
