Every two years FIBA, basketball’s international sports governing body conducts a review into the rules of the game and makes changes to improve our sport. Recent reviews have resulted in changes to the rule book in 2006, 2008 and again in October 2010. In response to this, Basketball Victoria has put forward its recommendations for the phasing in on these rule changes over several years. However, to make this a more definative and less confusing process, the Hawthorn Basketball Association referees association met in February to decide which rule changes would be practical and applicable for the various domestic competitions at Hawthorn.

These rule changes will take effect at the commencement of the 2012 Winter Season. It is definitely worth a read so you clearly understand the rules of your particular domestic competition.
