Allen and Waldren at BigV All Star Saturday
Added 17 June 2012
Rewarded for their performances to date in the 2012 BigV season, Hawthorn Magic's Jay Allen (Division One Men) and Ben Waldren (State Youth Championship 1 Men) were selected to play in the BigV Bounce, the league's annual all star event.
A strong 1000 strong crowd witnessed the extravaganza at MSAC which also featured a dunk competition. The matches were spiced up with the awarding of 5 points for dunks and also for 3-pointers as well as a 14 second shot clock which ensured plenty of action.
The first match of the day pitted BigV's elite against the young guns as the State Championship Men (SCM) all stars took on the State Youth Championship 1 Men (SYC1M) all stars which featured Magic's Ben "Buckets" Waldren. Unfortunately for Waldren and the SYC1M all stars, the SCM all stars were too strong winning 111-78.
Up next were the Division One Men (D1M) all stars and Division Two Men (D2M) all stars who played for the right to face the SCM in the final. Unlike last year where the D2M showed up the D1M, on this occasion, the Magic's "Jazzy" Jay Allen and the D1M won comfortably 143-103 to set up a matchup in the final with the SCM.
In the third-place playoff, the D2M narrowly defeated the SYC1M by 6 points and in the final, the SCM defeated the D1M 155-106.
Congratulations to Jazzy and Buckets on their selection and for doing Magic proud at the BigV Bounce.
