Ladders and Results Service Up and Running

The ladders and results service has commenced for season 2007. They are available from the menu bar on the left and will be updated throughout the season within 24 hours of the completion of senior matches. From round 1 of mens action, there were a couple draws to mention between the Rockets and Hawthorn Trajic of the Veterans League and between the Wellers and Ninjas in the Youth League. The most one sided affair in round 1 was the SC Rattlers who outscored the Nibblers by more than 3.5 times in the Youth League. But running riot were the Disco Ninjas amassing 81 points and Carlton Cannons with 71 in A Reserve and B Grade respectively. [More Details]

The weekend saw last seasons grand finalists from Division Two Women and Division One Men play for the first time this season in an eagerly awaited double header at the Boroondara Sports Complex...The Magic responded strongly with a 8-0 run either side of the last break and ran out comfortable winners 55-40, avenging their defeat in the grand final last season...the Magic staged a furious comeback in the last quarter outscoring Sherbrooke 30-13 and brought the margin back to 8 at the close of the match [More Details]

Bendigo Bank Referee of the Month

Before a packed crowd at the first ever Big V game played at Boroondara Sports Complex on Saturday March 31st, Councilor Dick Menting, on behalf the Community Bank® branches in Canterbury and Surrey Hills, presented the award to 13 year old Ashleigh Mabilia. Accepting the award, Ashleigh thanked her fellow referees and hoped the award would inspire more young people to give refereeing a go. [More Details]

Cash prize giant boost for referees

AT first glance it looks as though young Ashleigh Mabilia might just have the toughest job in sport. The 13-year-old has the task of upholding the rules in the rough-and-tumble of the Hawthorn Basketball Association league games. It sounds like a thankless task, especially when confronted by two teams of man-mountains like Zac Barry, but the association is about to change that, introducing a monthly award for the league's best referees. New home court is magic

HAWTHORN Magic christened its new home at Boroondara Sports Complex in fine fashion last weekend with a pair of wins. The Big V Division 1 men cruised to a 26-point win against Whittlesea, 108-82, last Saturday while the women proved they, too, were up to Division 1 class with a 60-52 win against Diamond Valley. In the men's clash, guard Jay Allen shot the lights out in the first half, nailing five of eight three-pointers to finish with 24 points and seven assists. [More Details]

BSC off to a Magic start

Saturday 31st March 2007 was a first on a couple of fronts. The Magic moved away from their old home of the X-Dome to their new home at the Boorondara Sports Complex in Balwyn. Both the womens and mens teams made winning starts at their new home in what will hopefully be a place visiting teams fear travelling to. [More Details]

Free Throw for Kids

This year, the Hawthorn Magic Basketball Club participated in Basketball Victoria's (BV) "Free Throw for Kids" program. This annual fundraising drive organised by BV is where participating associations donate $1 for every free throw made to the Good Friday Appeal. During round 2 of BigV competition, the Hawthorn Magic men made 25 free throws and the women made 9 making a total of 34 free throws for the club. Hawthorn Magic is proud to be a part of such a worthy cause. [More Details]

The biggest day of the domestic Junior Competition season for Summer 2006/07 took place on 24th March 2007, with the last 2 teams standing from each division taking part in the grand final.
