Referees Beginner School - August 2009

Would you look good in black & white stripes? Do you have the qualities of leadership, self discipline and visual impairment? Maybe it’s time you thought about enrolling in the next referee’s beginner school. The ref’s school is the first step in learning the how and why of basketball officiating, it will be held over two consecutive evenings at Xavier College in the upstairs classroom of the Stephenson Centre. 2009 Womens Finals Qualified Players List

The post season is fast approaching for the womens competition. Below is a list of all the players who have qualified for the finals and also the number of games played of those who are yet to qualify...Players must play in a minimum of 6 games; BYES do not count as a game played. Any player failing to score, foul or otherwise impact on the score sheet must sign the back of the score sheet as proof of playing. [More Details]

BigV Rounds 13 & 15 - Change of Game Times

Please note that the game times of the double headers on June 27th and July 11th have been changed. June 27th fixtures have been changed to 5pm YLW Hawthorn v Melbourne and 7pm D1M Hawthorn v Sherbrooke. Melbourne Girls College Swine Flu Information

There have been reports in the media today about the swine flu infection of some students of Melbourne Girls College which has resulted in the suspension of classes. Please note that Hawthorn Basketball Association competitions have not been affected by this and competition including Round 5 of junior competition on May 30th will go ahead as normal.

Hawthorn Magic BigV Round 8 Recap

After taking a slender eight point lead into the main break, the Magic had enough of the Giants and put them away with a 33-12 third quarter. The fourth turned into a scoring fest as the Magic outscored their entire first half total in the final quarter, as the piled on 45 in the period. [More Details]

Hawthorn Magic BigV Round 6 Recap

The Magic bounced back from last week’s disappointing loss to take a convincing 17 point win over the Thunder. After opening a decent lead by the end of the first half, the Magic went on to win with relative ease, despite a Thunder run in the third quarter. [More Details]

Last Sunday, 5th April, players from the Hawthorn Magic senior squads teamed up with naming rights sponsor Nando's to put on a show for the kids at the annual Glenferrie Road Trader's festival. Nandos' Junior Grand Final Day 2008/09

Saturday 28th March was the day of days for the Hawthorn Basketball Association and its junior competition. Nandos' Grand Final Day for summer 2008/09 saw action at MLC, Xavier, Hawthorn Secondary and the home of the Hawthorn Magic, Boroondara Sports Complex. Success At The Tournament

All four Hawthorn Magic senior teams participated in the annual BigV Tournament at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre over the Labour Day long weekend. The tournament is the annual preseason hit out for many of the teams participating in the BigV competition. It was a very successful weekend for the Magic with all of four teams returning a favourable record in the group phase, three of the teams progressing to the knock out phase, two playing in the grand final of their division and one of the teams winning their grand final.
