Home / BigV / Big V Round 9 Wrap Up

Check out the Big V Hawthorn Magic wrap up below from this past weekend.

CHAMPIONSHIP MEN – Eltham 96 defeated Hawthorn 66
Eltham put together its biggest win of the season, eclipsing a disappointing Hawthorn by 30pts. It was all one-way traffic as the Wildcats went to work with a 24-8 second quarter, leaving the magic clearly shell-shocked and well off the pace. Adam Moore’s (23pts) brilliant season continued for the winners and he must be in All Star Five talk right now, while for the Magic it was again left to Ben Waldren (15pts, 10rbs) to try and get his faltering team going.

DIVISION 1 WOMEN – Werribee 85 defeated Hawthorn 67 & Geelong 77 defeated Hawthorn 56
Werribee got off to a fast start in their clash versus Hawthorn racing out to a 28-18 first period lead. The Devils were never troubled from here recording a much needed 85-67 win over the Hawthorn Magic. It was a dominant display on the boards for the Devils out rebounding the visitors 65 to 41. Thinks was thanks largely to Lydia Brooks who pulled in an outstanding 22 boards for the game. Brittany Klaman led the scoring for the home side with 16 points, with Mel Zuccolo leading Hawthorn with 14.

Geelong Supercats made it two wins in two games on the weekend when they comfortably accounted for the Magic on Sunday afternoon, and in turn making it a two loss weekend for Hawthorn. The Magic were certainly competitive against one of the competition frontrunners but did not have the scoring power to go with Geelong. Brooke McKay was great for the home side with 24 points shooting at 12/18 from the field with Amy Wormald again strong with 16 points and 12 boards. For the visitors Tash Ross-Harris had 17 points and 13 boards.

MOLTEN VIC YOUTH LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP MEN – Hawthorn 81 defeated Diamond Valley 74
The Magic produced a stunning 29-19 fourth quarter to secure the victory. While Jack Barry was kept quiet, Paddy McBreaty and Jake Bianco both dropped 16 points while Praven Chelvan was influential with 15 off the pine. A special mention to Dan Girolami who had 25 and 10 for the Eagles.

MOLTEN VIC YOUTH LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP WOMEN – Diamond Valley 67 defeated Hawthorn 60 & Hawthorn 79 defeated Geelong 44
Hawthorn faced off twice this past weekend, and had limited success. Having struggled early against Diamond Valley, the Magic couldn’t muster up a big enough comeback as they went down by seven points. 19 points to Jordan Henry was too much, despite the Magic winning the rebound count by double digits. On a much brighter note, the side traveled to Geelong and burst out of the gates and in fact won every quarter to comfortably take care of business. Skye Beaton best with 18 and 13.
