Important information regarding the Coronovirus

Dear Clubs, players, coaches and referees,

At Basketball Hawthorn we take the health and safety of all our stakeholders very seriously. We are also guided by our mission to encourage and enable as many people as possible to play basketball in our region.

Given the current context of coronavirus, balancing these two needs is our number one priority.

We therefore ask you to ensure you comply with the guidelines issued by our Health Authorities in order to protect our basketball community and limit the spread of this virus.

This includes noting the list of countries that our Health Authorities have classified as high-risk: currently China, Iran, South Korea and Italy*.

Please avoid playing, or attending training or a match, even as a spectator, for 14 days upon return from any of these countries.
If you, or your child/ren present symptoms similar to that of coronavirus, we ask that you please refrain from coming to any basketball matches or stadiums and that you, or your child/ren stay away until the threat of transmission has passed.

Similarly, being immediately associated with a diagnosed patient might be cause for self-exclusion, depending on official health advice, to avoid the risk of further exposure to others.

Given the uncertainty of the situation evolving in Melbourne, we would ask that all parents exercise common sense and your own best judgement.

Please be especially mindful if you or your child/ren attend a school with a known outbreak.

For example, you might wish to exclude your children from training or matches, although this course of action has not officially been advised by any school or any Health Authorities at this time.

All training and games at Carey Sports Complex (Bulleen Road) are proceeding as planned. Junior Domestic Semi-Finals will go ahead as scheduled this weekend until advised otherwise.

We will continue to update you as the situation evolves.

With thanks and regards,

Brock Rogers
