Hawthorn Junior Magic Basketball

Hawthorn Magic was established by Basketball Hawthorn (BH) to give representative level opportunities to players predominantly from junior teams of the BH Saturday Domestic competition. Players do not leave their Saturday teams, Hawthorn Magic is an additional opportunity for players to develop their skills, court performance and physical fitness.

In season 2019/20, Magic entered 41 teams from U12 to U21 in the VJBL.  In addition, there were U12 development squads in both the girls’ and boys’ programs.  Teams at the upper age level have links with the Hawthorn Magic Senior teams for Men and Women, which play in their respective State League, or ‘Big V’ competitions.  Senior Magic in 2020 had Mens and Womens teams in the Big V Championship and Youth Championship.  We proudly provide a continuous representative pathway at Hawthorn Magic from U12 through to Senior Big V basketball competition.

In season 2019/2020, Hawthorn Magic was represented in the State’s highest competition – Victorian Championship – with 10 teams, 6 Boys and 4 Girls.

On an individual note, the Hawthorn Magic program was well represented throughout Victorian State teams and programs. Within the Under 14 & 15 Boys and Girls Southern Cross Challenge (SCC) squads, 21 players represented Hawthorn Magic.  While over 30 players were selected for the State Development Program (SDP).

Hawthorn Magic players were also selected to represent Victoria Metro either in the squad or as an emergency for the Under 18 and Under 16 Australian Championships. Congratulations to Amy O’Hara (Under 18 Metro Girls), Jarryd Remy (Under 18 Boys – Emergency), Amy Kurkowski (Under 16 Girls), Georgia McBean (Under 16 Girls  – Emergency), Hayden Loader (Under 16 Boys), Phoenix Windsor (Under 16 Boys), Logan Morris (Under 16 Boys – Emergency) and Jesse McIntosh (Under 16 Boys – Emergency).

The Hawthorn Magic Program is administered by the Hawthorn Magic Administrator under the umbrella of the Basketball Hawthorn Board, Hawthorn Magic Committee and Management.
