PLAYING IN MULTIPLE TEAMS
HBA strongly advises individuals to participate in one team only. Players may not participate in multiple teams in the same age group. If a player elects to play in second team (older age group only), they should anticipate times will clash and not be able to play in both teams for all matches including finals.
DIVISIONS AND TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE
Teams will nominate the division they believe most suitable to participate (A, B, C or D) and declare current competition(s) they participate in. HBA will review all entries and form divisions as fairly as possible with the information provided.
Each team is guaranteed 4 matches and will strive to create divisions of 5 teams. Teams will play each opponent once, and the top two teams will play off in a final. The actual structure will ultimately depend on how many teams are entered and the grading preferences & suitability submitted. Information will be distributed regarding each division structure with the release of the tournament schedule.
LADDERS & RESULTS
The tournament will adopt a Premiership Point Ladder system to rank teams. Teams will be awarded points based on match results as follows:
-
- Win = 3 points
- Draw = 2 points
- Loss = 1 point
- Bye / Forfeit = 0 points
Ties are determined by percentage of Points For / Points Against (calculated total of team match points)
Results are recorded on electronic scoring systems and visual scoreboards provided on each court. The officially recorded result is taken from the electronic scoring system. Each team is required to provide a scorer – those scorers are expected to work together to ensure the scoreboard and scoring system are correct.
A stringent Mercy Rule is applicable for all matches (inc. finals) – any team that has gains a lead of 20+ points is automatically declared the winner and the score at that point shall stand as the officially recorded result. The match will continue to be played until the end of the match clock, however no points will be recorded on the scoreboard or electronic device.
